SERVICES AND METHODS

We use a variety of effective chiropractic techniques, depending on what is needed by the individual patient.  Some might prefer a more gentle chiropractic technique for pain relief like SOT or Soft Tissue Massage, while others might improve with a more aggressive pain relief method such as Graston Technique or Trigger Point Release to aid in pain relief and pain management. Every chiropractic patient is treated as an individual to meet your needs. Whichever technique is used, it will always be my goal, as your chiropractor, to provide fast and natural pain relief and prevention. A list of chiropractic techniques available is listed below:

Graston Technique

Graston Technique® is an innovative, patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions, relieving and assisting pain management. The technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation.  Originally developed by athletes, Graston Technique® is an interdisciplinary treatment used by more than 16,000 clinicians worldwide—including physical and occupational therapists, hand therapists, chiropractors, and athletic trainers.  GT is utilized at some 1,550 outpatient facilities and 39 industrial sites, by more than 234 professional and amateur sports organizations, and is part of the curriculum at 54 respected colleges and universities.  For the pain patient, Graston Technique provides quicker and more improved outcomes.  There is increased satisfaction in recovery time and decreased frustration as a result of Graston Technique’s inherent diagnostic ability.  Pain, swelling, spasm, and knots in the muscle decrease quickly.  Movement or range of motion improve quickly.  Typically, results are experienced in 2-5 office visits.

Graston Technique: How it Works

*Patients having open wounds, thrombophlebitis, uncontrolled hypertension, inflammatory conditions due to infection, hematoma, osteomyelitis or an unstable fracture should NOT have Graston Technique performed.  Be sure to consult with a Certified Graston Technique practitioner.

Kinesiology Taping

Taping to prevent injury and for pain relief has been used by chiropractors, physical therapists and fitness trainers for more than 30 years. During the summer Olympics in Beijing 2008, several medal winning American and foreign athletes were wearing the nude and or colored tape during competition. Many media outlets were giving headline exposure to this contemporary form of treatment.

Taping helps to reduce pain, prevents injury, optimizes performance, promotes and improves circulation and healing and  re-educates the neuro-muscular system. It facilitates the body’s normal healing process while offering support and stability to muscles and joints aiding pain management.  It also looks cool while on the playing field!

Dr. Jason Brattner is a trained Kinesio Tape specialist and also uses Rock Tape in his offices.

Other Available Methods

  • Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation – Stretching technique proven to yield the greatest increase in range of motion.
  • Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT)  – The Sacro Occipital Technic is a system of chiropractic and chiropractic Craniopathy that integrates art, science and philosophy of optimizing the human innate healing systems. SOT™ Methods utilizes a systemic and systematic approach to removing neurological/structural/functional interferences thereby returning the innate healing capacity to the system.

  • Spinal Manipulation (Chiropractic adjustment ) – the most common treatment used in chiropractic care. Spinal manipulation is a passive manual maneuver during which a three-joint complex is taken past the normal range of movement, but not so far as to dislocate or damage the joint. Its defining factor is a dynamic thrust, which is a sudden force that causes an audible release and attempts to increase a joint’s range of motion.

  • Trigger Point Release – Sometimes confused with pressure point massage , this involves deactivating trigger points that may cause local pain or refer pain and other sensations, such as headaches, in other parts of the body. Manual pressure, vibration, injection, or other treatment is applied to these points to relieve myofascial pain.
  • Other Methods - Spine exercises and muscle stretching and strengthening programs can also be provided to help prevent re-occurrence of neck pain, back pain and shoulder pain. Workplace ergonomics and Activities of Daily Living will also be reviewed to help prevent re-occurrence of symptoms.
